Wet straw problems
With 16ha remaining out of 136ha, it is a case of “snatching what we can, when we can” for Catherine Thompson in Yorkshire.
Wheat yields have been variable, but she predicts they are just above the five-year average, and up on last year at 8.75t/ha. Most of the crop came in at under 16% moisture.
She was disappointed with Robigus yields, but thinks it may have been affected by a small patch of yellow rust.
Welford was pleasing and she said they may use the seed to grow it again next year. Gladiator was pleasing, with one sample coming in at 18% moisture and 75kg/hl bushel weight.
Mrs Thompson said harvest has gone better than last year due to a new combine, but the biggest problem is baling straw as it is so wet.
