Wheat harvest easier than last year

Jeremy Walker only has linseed to cut now on Haddon Farm in Bridgewater, Somerset. Wheat was straightforward, with no sprouting or lodging problems, he said.

Deben, Gladiator and Robigus yielded 8.75t/ha, which he said was not exceptional but is pleasing. Bushel weights were about average.

Beans were a nice sample and yielded reasonably well, he said.

Mr Walker found harvest a lot easier this year. “This time last year the crops were soggy, wet and sprouting. It was an awful salvage operation.”

He was pleased to have finished in good time this year, with straw all baled and yields slightly up on last year.
