Yorks grower happy with Canberra – harvest update
Robert Jones from Harrogate, North Yorkshire is halfway through his 100ha (250 acre) of oilseed rape and is so far pleased with the results.
He‘s particularly happy with Canberra, which consistently yields 12% more than Recital and Winner and this year yielded 21% better.
He said it was a lower biomass variety which allowed easier and quicker combining.
The Canberra is early to ripen and produced a clean and dry sample which helped Mr Jones spread out the timing of his harvest.
Mr Jones has also finished harvesting his winter barley with variable yields. It has ranged between 4.9-7.4 t/ha (2-3 t/acre).
