VIDEO: RSPB may have CAP reform answers, says David Heath

Methods used by the RSPB to boost farmland wildlife could be encouraged on more farms across England following CAP reform, suggests farm minister David Heath.

Following a CAP deal struck in Europe, the UK has secured the flexibility to transfer up to 15% of money from direct farm payments into agri-environment schemes.

Mr Heath visited the RSPB’s Hope Farm – a working commercial farm where a range of agri-environment measures have seen farmland bird numbers more than double.

The farm in Knapwell, Cambridgeshire, is also used to experiment with new techniques for boosting wildlife numbers.
