First Milk raises milk price for second month running

First Milk is to increase farmgate prices for its members for the second month in a row.

From 1 July, farmers in its liquid pool will see a 0.6p/litre hike, coupled with a 0.25p/litre increase for those in its cheese pool and 0.4p/litre for producers in its balancing pool.

Chairman Bill Mustoe said: “Our market related pricing commitment means that we increase members’ milk price as soon as we have cash available.

“This is our fifth increase in 2010 and we will look to lift members’ milk price again as we secure more returns from the marketplace and make further progress on efficiency savings.”
