Miller re-elected NFU Scotland president
Nigel Miller is to serve a second two-year term as president of NFU Scotland.
Mr Miller, a former vet, farms 550ha in partnership with two of his sons in the Scottish Borders. The upland hill farm supports 175 cows and 950 breeding ewes.
Borders livestock producer Rob Livesey was also appointed as one of the union’s vice-presidents during the election at the union’s Centenary AGM.
He joins Fife arable farmer Allan Bowie, who has been vice-president since February 2009.
Mr Livesey is a tenant farmer from Firth, Catshawhill, who has been livestock committee chairman for four years.
The family run 1100 Mule ewes, 80 Salers suckler cows and grow about 48.5ha of grain.
Although no voting was required, the formalities of having candidates proposed, seconded and elected took place at the Union’s Council meeting on Tuesday (12 February).
Speaking after his re-election, Mr Miller said: “This board takes up office at a hugely important time for the industry, with the CAP reform process and independence debate gathering momentum.
“In addition, every sector of our farming industry face a growing list of challenges. This is a team with the skills and knowledge to meet those challenges on behalf of our members.”
