MPs to debate dairy industry crisis
MPs are to debate the crisis that has engulfed Britain’s dairy farmers.
The Westminster Hall debate will take place from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Thursday (13 September).
Westminster Hall debates provide MPs with an opportunity to debate local or national issues and to receive a response from a government minister.
Presided over by the deputy speaker, they are intended to be debates that are constructive rather than confrontational.
Dairy farm leaders are continuing to press for a better deal for milk producers – many of whom are continuing to make a loss.
The latest protest saw scores of farmers demonstrate outside the Dairy Crest depot at Foston, Derbyshire, on Sunday (9 September).
Good weather and the need to press on with the late harvest meant many farmers were unable to attend the protest.
But organisers said more than 100 farmers still turned out.
