New firm to develop small-scale wind turbines

A new venture has been launched to help finance the development, construction and operation of small-scale onshore wind projects in the UK.
The firm, Windberry Energy, has been formed by energy investment team Rockfield Energy Investments and private equity firm Bregal Capital. It has an exclusive arrangement with Savills to identify and validate suitable sites and to manage the planning and consenting process.
Windberry will oversee the installation and connection of the turbines to the local grid and will concentrate on projects that are less than 500kW, generally involving one or two turbines.
“This creates a real opportunity for landowners who would otherwise be excluded from the traditional wind farm developers,” Philip Gready, director of Savills energy, said.
“It brings together Savills’ access to property, land acquisition and planning expertise with Rockfield Energy’s resource to develop sub-500kW single turbine sites throughout the UK. It will bring a much needed offering in this market sector and enable landowners to develop the full potential of their wind resource with a trusted partner.”
