NFU welcomes winter ‘freeze’ for solar FiTs
The NFU has welcomed news that Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) support for solar schemes will remain unchanged from 1 February 2013.
Despite initial plans by the government to reduce FiTs payments by 3.5% every three months, the rates paid for schemes registered between 1 February and 30 April 2013 will remain unchanged.
However, Reduced rates could come into play from May onwards, the NFU has warned.
Rates remained unchanged as a result of lower uptake in solar schemes between August and October this year.
During this period only 61MW of domestic solar PV (0-10kW), 12.6MW of small-medium projects (10-50kW), and 24.7MW of projects in the large installation band were registered to the grid.
The payment rates for schemes registered between 1 February and 30 April 2013 can be found on the Ofgem website.
“Solar power remains a tremendous investment in our sluggish economy, and there are excellent returns to had, especially for those farmers worried by rising electricity prices,” said NFU chief renewable energy adviser.
“The government formula for determining quarterly reductions in the tariffs may be puzzling, but capital costs continue to chase the tariffs downhill.”
