NFYFC elects first all-female top team

The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) has announced the election of the first all-female council in its 80-year history.

Milly Wastie of Northamptonshire YFC was voted in as chairman, while Claire Worden of Cornwall YFC and Hannah Talbot of Worcester YFC both took posts as vice-chairmen.

Ms Wastie, who works for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, said: “It’s a huge honour to be elected. I’m thoroughly looking forward to representing the 25,000 members throughout England and Wales.”

During her tenure, Ms Wastie will launch a rural road safety campaign to highlight the risks of driving in rural areas. She also hopes to boost memberships and create closer ties between different counties and clubs.

More than 100 members attended the elections, held in Coventry on 29 October.

Three new members were also elected to the organisation’s board of management: chairman Frank Chester; vice-chairman Dr Julia Pointon and youth work/safeguarding adviser Jane Henderson.
