United Auctions sold 7,884 prime sheep at last Thursday’s (21 March) sale. In total, 6,433 hoggs averaged 190.5p/kg – a drop of 16.5p/kg on the previous week.
Top prices included Texel crosses at 263p/kg, Suffolks and Cheviots at 221p and Mules at 205p/kg. Best gross values were £118 for a pen of Beltex crosses, with Texels selling to £116 and Mules to £89.
In the cast ewe and ram section, 1,451 head went under the hammer, with Suffolk ewes selling to £107.50, Cheviots to £78.50 and Mules to £70.50. Beltex rams topped at £77 apiece.
The previous day’s store cattle sale saw bullocks average 229.9p/kg – 6.38p up on the week. Heifers increased by 4.5p to 218p/kg, with forward cattle averaging 172.09p/kg.
