Ringside: Fantastic entry at Bentham hogg sale

Bentham Auction Mart, Yorkshire/Lancashire border. The Great Annual Show and Sale of hoggs with lambs at foot saw a fantastic entry of top quality hoggs, which did not disappoint a packed ringside of buyers. Championship honours went to a pen of five north of England mule hoggs with single lambs, which sold for £300 per family.
In the Continental section a pen of five Cheviot x Beltex hoggs with Beltex lambs took first prize, selling for £200 per family. “Trade throughout the day was brisk for all classes of sheep, the highlight being a pedigree Texel ewe with pure Texel lamb, selling for £510 (£255 each),” said auctioneer Stephen Dennis. Mule hoggs with singles averaged £161, with Continentals levelling at £169.
