Wiseman buys 10m litres a year dairy from First Milk

ROBERT WISEMAN Dairies has signed a deal with First Milk to buy the liquid milk business of its Scottish dairy, supplying 10m litres a year to independent retailers.

Scottish Milk Dairies, which includes a dairy and a depot on one site in Hamilton near Glasgow, posted liquid sales of £4.6m last financial year.

The dairy as a whole has the capacity to process 30m litres of milk a year into a mixture of fresh milk, UHT and butter for the ‘middle market’.

The acquisition should go through in early September carrying a price tag of £900,000, but consultation on the future of the relevant assets is already underway.

A spokesman for Wiseman said the deal had been struck because of the additional volumes that came with SMD fresh milk business.

Chief executive Robert Wiseman said: “This acquisition will complement our existing operations and enhance efficiencies in Central Scotland.

“Customer service and quality of product remain our top priorities and I can assure all customers of SMD that we are keen to serve them in the same way that we serve all Wiseman customers.”
