Back to college for Sir Don
CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY has awarded Donald Curry an Honorary Degree in recognition of his contribution to the agriculture industry.
The award was presented on Tues (Jul 20) by Mark Kibblewhite at the Silsoe campus which was previously the National College of Agricultural Engineering.
Prof Kibblewhite said the university believed that Sir Donald was the man “to help get UK agriculture back into the first division”.
His leadership had already done much to ensure UK and European agriculture was ready to meet the challenges of the next decade.
Sir Donald is the founder and chairman of North Country Primestock Ltd, an ÂŁ18m per year farmer co-operative.
He was chairman of the Meat and Livestock Commission from 1993 to 2001 steering the industry through the troubled years of BSE.
In 1997 he was awarded a CBE and in 2001 a knighthood for his services to the meat and livestock industry.
