Do you want to join the Farmers Weekly team?
Are you a new graduate looking for an exciting job in the farming industry? Do you already work in the farming industry but are looking for a change in career? Have you ever considered working as an agricultural journalist?
It might not be the first career that springs to mind when people think of farming, but if you love agriculture and have an aptitude for writing then it could be just the job for you.
Working for the UK’s biggest selling agriculture publication is certainly one of the most varied and rewarding jobs in the sector.
One day you could be touring a farm talking about management issues, the next you could be on the conference circuit listening to a government minister as they deliver a keynote speech. One week you might be attending a major show on the Continent – another you could be working from the office on an in-depth feature. It is a fast-paced way of working and no two weeks are the same.
Farmers Weekly has three jobs on offer – arable reporter, business editor and deputy news editor – and all involve working on our magazine and website. This means we want people who are also prepared to have a go at making videos, blog and use social media tools such as Twitter.
We are not too worried if you are not a trained journalist as we can teach you the basics, but an interest in journalism and a good grasp of English is essential. We need people with the skill to identify what would make a good story and the ability to communicate new ideas in practical and interesting ways. We are also on the look-out for people who might be able to contribute to our machinery desk.
