More work to promote farming

FARMERS MUST do more to promote farming to consumers, urged the backer of a new initiative to arm farmers with the facts they need to promote the industry.

The Food, Farming and Countryside booklet explains how British farm produce is safer, more wholesome, traceable and affordable than ever before.

It also explains how British farmers care for and manage the countryside and its wildlife and how they have one of the best animal welfare records in the world.

“The problem we have is how do we get this good news story out,” said Essex farmer, Guy Smith, who produced the booklet.

“The fact is we all have public interface opportunities, but sometimes we lack the tools. This is just such a tool.”

The booklet is sponsored by Barclays, Bayer CropScience, NFU, John Deere, Unilever and NFU Mutual and is available free from www.voiceofbritishagriculture.com.
