Ayrshires sell to 4,000gns at Carlisle sale

Ayrshire dairy cows realised a high of 4,000gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last week (4 November) with a £1,480.50 average achieved for 35 in-milk heifer lots and an almost complete clearance.

It was an entry from the Ballygreggan dispersal on behalf of Archie and Tracey Millar, Mull of Kintyre that topped trade. Sale leader was the Willsbro Red Razzle daughter Ballygreggan Clover 7. She was sold dry and due soon to Ravenhill Stormin Norman to the Cuthill Towers herd.

Selling at 3,000gns was a stylish heifer from the Lawrie family. Cuthill Towers Burdette Marcey was sired by Burdette and bred from a VG88 dam who gave over 11,000kgs as a four year old. She was purchased by GR Thomas, Tyreglwys Farm, Dyfed, Wales.

Also from the Ballygreggan herd was a third calver, which sold for 2,250gns to the Keith Davidson from the Halmyre herd. Ballygreggan Jura 8 was sired by Cuthill Towers Romeo and bred from an EX91 dam who gave more than 60t.

The day’s overall champion went to Ballgreggan Kim Nav 7, a balanced cow fresh in her fifth lactation giving 34kg. She was sired by McCornick Navigator and was a successfully show cow at the Kintye show for the Millar family. She sold for 1,750gns to the judge John Watson, Stranraer.

The champion bull consigned by DA Howie and Sons, Morwick Prince Rocky was sired by Kamouraska Rockstar and bred from a EX93 Sand Ranger dam with over 60t lifetime. He topped the bull trade at 3,300gns going to J Adamson and Son, Swaities Farm, Lanark.
