Foot and mouth reports to be published within days – DEFRA

Two key reports on the foot and mouth disease outbreak in Surrey will be published within days, DEFRA announced on Friday 31 August.

“DEFRA has already received the report from the Health and Safety Executive into the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Surrey,” a spokeswoman for the department said.

The second report by Imperial College London‘s Brian Spratt had been concluded and was due to reach DEFRA in time for a joint publication next week, the spokeswoman added.

The Health and Safety Executive report focuses on how the outbreak began while Professor Spratt’s remit was wider and covered the outbreak from its beginnings and beyond.

“Both reports will be carefully considered. We expect to publish them next week alongside a statement of further actions that the government will be taking in the light of the findings,“ said the spokeswoman.
