Raising awareness of beef opportunities
BEEF EXPO 2005, organised by the National Beef Association, will feature an innovative show of suckler cows and calves, breed society exhibits, stockjudging competitions, machinery demonstrations, seminars and trade stands.
It will be held on Wed, June 8, at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, Powys. So far, 150 commercial and educational organisations have expressed interest in reserving trade stand space. Local support is being provided by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, ADAS, the Welsh meat promotional organisation, HCC, and a hard-working committee of livestock farmers from all parts of Wales.
“The beef industry is at a cross-roads following the decoupling of subsidies from production and Beef Expo will provide an opportunity to glean all the latest technical and marketing information to meet the challenges ahead,” said Robin Gibson Watt, chairman of the organising committee.
“Trading opportunities are opening up again for British beef producers with the easing of export restrictions and Beef Expo will provide the springboard to get British and Welsh beef back on the world stage.
“This year”s Beef Expo is attracting tremendous interest and will be the most comprehensive specialist beef event ever held in Wales.”
Beef producers visiting this year”s Beef Expo event with an extra day to spare can sieze the opportunity to visit two Welsh Border beef units and IGER”s Bronydd Mawr Research Station. Farm visits will take place on Tues, June 7 and will be followed by a pre-event beef conference and dinner at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells. The units include an integrated beef and sheep breeding and finishing enterprise, both run by EA Davies and Son. The family has a 726ha (1800-acre) farming enterprise on five farms straddling the Welsh border. Visitors will see their Trebarried and Upper Court units. Tour coaches will leave from the Royal Welsh Showground and the cost of 11.75 covers morning coffee, lunch and travel, but places will be restricted to 300 delegates and must be booked in advance (see panel). Please send payment when booking.
