Rural affairs minister Elin Jones will make the announcement at a plenary session this afternoon.

The announcement will come almost a year after Ms Jones first outlined the £27m eradication plan.

It is thought the minister will set out where the trial areas, known as Intensive Action Pilot Areas, will be located.

Speaking ahead of the announcement, chief veterinary officer Christianne Glossop said that with 1800 herds under restriction and compensation costs rocketing “doing nothing was no longer an option”.

“We have to change our mindset. We need to see TB for what it is an infectious disease. Where we have outbreaks we need to go in hit it hard and then clean up.”
