Charolais bulls top trade with 9,200gns high at Thainstone multi-breed sale

Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Northern Spring Show and Sale on Wednesday (25 February) saw prices rise to 9,200gns for the Charolais reserve supreme champion.

The 22 month old Blelack Immortal TI+58 SRI +63 by the 10,000gns Balmyle Dingle son from Neil and Graeme Massie, Logie Coldstone, Aberdeenshire was sold to W and M Leith, Keith, Banffshire.
Charolais bulls sold like hot cakes with 15 of 16 Charolais bulls forward selling to an average of £5,873. Blelack Immortal 9200gns - Top Price

The largest consignment at the sale was from John Wilson and sons, Glenkindie, Aberdeenshire who sold five bulls all sired by the 20,000gns Carlisle supreme champion Beechtree George to an average of £6,468, four of which sold for 5,000gns and above. The first going to Messrs J J Gordon, Huntly, Aberdeenshire for 8,500gns was the 20 month old Kinclune Ideal. At the same age Kinclune Ivanhoe sold for 7,200gns to RG Mainland, Rousay, Orkney. Next came two more 20 month olds; Kinclune Ivan who went to M and I Steel, Banchory, Aberdeenshire for 6,500gns and Kinclune Idol who was purchased for 5,000gns by D Henderson and Son, Wick, Caithness.

The 23 Month old Elgin Iggy TI +47 SRI +40 was next along at 6,800gns for Messrs RA Milne and son, Lhanbryde, Morayshire. This son of the 25,000gns Supreme Perth Champion Goldies Unbeatable went to C and V Fraser, Stronsay, Orkney.

Michael Massie, Ellon, Aberdeenshire sold Elrick Independent TI +32 SRI +32, a 21 month old son of the 16,000gns Stirling Supreme Champion Thrunton Fearless who was purchased by GI and M Jamieson, Ellon, Aberdeenshire for 6,500gns, Another of Mr Massie’s bulls by the same sire, the 17 month old Elrick Illation TI +37 SRI +39 sold for 5,200gns to J and A Cooper, Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire.

Next going to James A Youni, Elgin, Morayshire at 6,000gns was the 18 month old supreme champion Strathisla Icon TI +30 SRI +33 sired by Balthayock Aesop from Robert McAskie, Keith, Banffshire.
Finally Graeme Leggat, New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire raised 5,500gns for the 19 month old Kersknowe Clansman son Bonnykelly Impeccable TI +20 SRI +20, who went to JA Cruickshank, Elgin, Morayshire.

Limousins

Limousin cattle sold to 7,000gns for Shannas Illusion and the day’s overall champion from John and Margaret Penny, Shannas, Mintlaw, Peterhead.

In front of the judge Anne MacPherson, Blackford Farm, Croy, Inverness, the April 2013-born Shannas Illusion had secured the Limousin Championship before moving on to take the Overall Supreme Interbreed Championship.

Illusion is by Craigatoke Bart, a Haltcliffe Underwriter son, and is out of the Dyke Thunder daughter Shannas Ballerina. Selling with solid performance figures for growth and muscle, the champion bull was purchased by Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, Stromness.

The first bull in the ring, Shannas Irnbru, got the Limousin sale off to a good start when selling for 4,000gns to E Jaffrey, Candyglirach, Drumoak, Banchory. This bull is another by Craigatoke Bart and is out of Shannas Champagne. Rounding off a good sale for the Pennys was the 4,500gns Shannas Invincable, an April 2013-born Dyke Thunder son (by Haltcliffe President) and out of Shannas Tinkerbell who now heads to HJ Arnott, Westerton, Memsie, Fraserburgh.

At 6,000gns was Livet Ike from Stephen Duncan, Achdregnie, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch, Banffshire. July 2013-born, this bull is by the 28,000gns AI sire Procters Cavalier and is out of the homebred dam Livet Brooke who carries Bailea Imij and Ronick Member breeding. Purchasing this bull was Rhindu Farm, Rhindu, Chapeltown, Ballindalloch.

Albert Howie, West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire made 5,500gns when selling his black Limousin bull Knock Black Inferno to Robert Chapman, West Cockmuir, Strichen, Fraserburgh. By the Irish sire Baileys Finalest, a Queenshead Altea son, this April 2013-born bull is out of the Newhouse Billy daughter Knock Felicity.

Emslies Imij made 4,800gns when selling for Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Sired by the herd stock bull Procters Cavalier, he is out of Emslies Doreen, a Milbrook Vintage daughter. The June 2013-born Imij had earlier stood as the Reserve Overall Champion in the Limousin section. Emslies Imij was bought by RA Finnie, Bush Farm, Crathie, Ballater. Selling at 4,200gns was the Bailea BMW son Emslies Black Istabraq also from Harry Emslie when purchased by G Wilson, Fichlie, Glenkindie, Alford. The dam of this July 2013 bull is Hafodlas Bronfraith, a Saphir daughter.
