Welsh Blacks were well sought after at Dolgellau on Tuesday, with the best of the cattle forward meeting with buyers expectations and a strong clearance of the lots on offer.
Leading the trade at 5000gns was the pre-sale show champion Gwarcwm Max 10 from D Huw Jones, Llety Cynnes, Cereddigion. This March 2006-born bull is by Seisiog Max 50 and out of Gwarcwm Meinir 9 and was named Welsh Black bull of the year earlier in 2009. He sold to Eirwyn Thomas, Rhiwlas, Oswestry.
Second best price among the bulls on offer was a 3200gns bid for the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, Hafodesgob Dai 4 from Gwenfair Jones and Sons, Bala. He is a Llwynsarn Cawrr son out of Hafodesgob Gwenan 15, a Fodlas Peredur 3 daughter. He was snapped up by Wyn Griffiths, Nanhoron, Pwllheli.
Females were in hot demand from the busy ringside, with the top price of 3300gns going to the reserve female champion from the pre-sale show, in-calf heifer Ysubboriau Nesta 62. This Gwern-Cynyddion Cai 2 daughter from William Jones is out of Ysgubboriau Nesta 42 and sold to James Hooton, Anglesey.
Next best was a 2300gns bid for in-calf heifer Hafodesgob Teleri 7 from Gwenfair Jones and Sons. Having stood second in the pre-sale show this Brysgaga Erddyn 42 daughter is out of Hafodsgob Teleri 5 and sold to Dylan Morgan, Talybont, Ceridigion. She sold in-calf to 3200gns bull Hafodesgob Dai 4.
And at 2100gns was the female champion from the pre-sale show, another from the Jones family, Hafodesgob Mai 16. She is by Llwynsarn Cawr and out of Hafodesgob Mai 11. Due to calve within the month to Hafodesgob Mai 4 she sold to Nigel Nixon, Llechryd, Builth Wells.
Then at 1850gns was the best of the maiden heifers on offer on the day, Mynach Dil 10. Champion maiden heifer in the pre-sale show, this Caerynwch Baron 6 daughter is out of Mynach Dil 9 and sold to Gethin Jones, Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llangollen.
