EBLEX event helps producers understand markets
An EBLEX “Lamb Roadshow” will be touring English auction markets throughout August with the aim of helping producers gain a greater understanding of the key markets for lamb.
Levy payers will be able to try their hand at carcase classification using the Virtual Lamb selection programme, while a carcass display will illustrate which lambs are suitable for the main outlets.
EBLEX representatives will be on hand during the sale to discuss all elements of lamb selection, as well as the wider work being done by EBLEX.
One of our key objectives is to help producers get the best returns from their animals, however there are still indications that some are missing out by not finishing their lambs to the correct specification, said EBLEX selection specialist Steve Powdrill.
“With a third of UK lamb now being exported, it’s even more important that producers understand the various market requirements.”
We have had tremendous support from auctioneers in setting up the roadshow, and we are confident that it will offer a real, practical benefit to producers, continued EBLEX regional project manager Liz Ford.
“It’s also a good opportunity for levy payers to meet with EBLEX representatives and find out more about the work we’re doing on their behalf.”
