Flashy Lassey leads Brecon show potential sale at £4,050

A top quality entry of cattle saw a packed ringside bid to £4,050 at Brecon Show potential sale on the weekend (14 February).

Leading trade was the Limousin cross heifer Flashy Lassey, bred by Colin and Wendy Phillips, Weobley, Herefordshire. Her Limousin x dam was bred by Pierce McNamee, Ireland, and she is a full sister to the Welsh Winter Fair 2012 reserve baby beef champion that sold for £4,800.  Buyer was Gilbert Brookes, Worcester.

Second best and selling for £3,100 was the striking roan-coloured heifer and the pre-sale overall champion Strawberry Split from JAV Mills and Sons, Builth Wells. Sired by a Limousin she is out of a BB x Charolais dam and was purchased by Brian Jones, Pentregwyn.

The best from DH Morgan’s entry of four, a Limousin x Candy Crush, topped at £2,850.

Next best and topping the steer entry at £2,750 was Uptown Funk from JM and AM Lewis, Llanwrda. Sired by the British Blue Dragons Blues Fire Fly he is out of a Limousin dam and was the pick of MJ and JA Pidsely, Devon.

Just shy of this at £2,200 was the overall reserve champion, the British Blue x steer Buster, which was out of a pedigree Limousin, from PJ and TA Jones, Tyisaf, Builth. Buyer was SJ Layton, Knoakes Court.

The un-haltered winner went to MAC, a Limousin steer, bred by DG Lewis, Cefncoed Mawr, Llanwrda. He later sold for £2,100 to Lucy Jones, Devon.

Averages: 38 steers, £1,434 and 41 heifers, £1,722.
