Hexham and Northern Marts see steady prime trade

With 62 cattle forward at Hexham and Northern Marts’ prime sale, more buyers gathered, but a plainer show of cattle were forward, according to auctioneers.

Prime cattle topped at 130.5p/kg for Charolais heifers, with Limousin and Simmental heifers hitting between 122.5p and 123.5p/kg. Limousin steers fellback to 118.5p/kg.

On the lamb trade, 3269 prime sheep were forward, including 2649 lambs. Consignors has been asked not to enter some lambs to avoid over supply.

Quality farm assured lambs weighing between 38 and 45kg met a firm trade with several pens selling in excess of 90p/kg. Best quality heavy lambs sold in excess of ÂŁ40, but this was difficult to maintain.
