John Gilmour takes Aberdeen-Angus championship

In a hotly contested Aberdeen-Angus calf show at the Royal Highland Winter Fair, East Lothian-based John Gilmour has taken the top spot with his November 2007 born bull calf Belhaven Ecclesiastic. Sired by one of John Elliot’s famous bulls Rawburn Lord Ross, he is out of this year’s Royal Highland Show Aberdeen Angus female champion Idvies Evita B088.

Tapped out as reserve overall spot by judge and commercial beef producer Scott Watson, Carnoustie, was the much fancied January 2008 born bull calf Balmachie Black Bear from Carnoustie-based breeder John Lascelles. Again by Lord Ross, he is out of Blelack Blackbird E350.

Taking the lead in the heifer section was the very sweet Deveron Elize H232 from Dunfries-based Hamish Sclater. This homebred March born calf is by Youngdale Dudley and is out of Deveron Elize C079.

Standing reserve to Elize was the second prize heifer from the class Netherton Frances H452 from the McLaren family, Auchterarder. She is by The Moss Mr Eshton and is out of Netherton Frances D324.
