Double win for quality Holstein
BREEDER BELINDA Fox made it two on the trot when her homebred five-year-old cow Copywood KJ Sara 2 took the supreme champion title at this year‘s National Holstein Show, Stafford.
This cow is half sister to last year‘s event winner Copywood Integrity Sara Red that Mrs Fox owns jointly with Rivedane Holsteins‘ Mark and Sue Nutsford.
Out of the 16-year-old Tocunn Lindy Sara and sired by Ked Juror, Copywood KJ Sara 2 caught the eye of international Holstein judge Martin Roberge of the Quebec-based Bellistar Holsteins as soon as she entered the ring in the Junior Cow class.
“This is a cow I love; best in her class, still showing dairyness, despite being well into lactation, and with great legs and feet. She is a class act and will do well where ever she goes.”
The championship is a world away from the fourth place ticket this cow attracted at last year‘s Dairy Event and a well-deserved award for an understated breeder with just six cows and 15 young-stock.
Into reserve champion slot went Ridgefield Storm Ghost 2 from John Barker’s herd based at Loughborough, Leics.
This six-year old stole the coveted best udder in show award earlier in the day from Copywood KJ Sara 2 and had only just been secured back to Ridgefield having been sold as a calf in a private deal to Riverdane Holsteins.
But Riverdane owner Mark Nutsford did not miss out altogether on the championship titles as Mr Roberge placed his mature cow Jonelma Astre Molly as honourable mention.
