Tender of £50,000 on offer for Olympic eggs

Catering company Bon Appétit, which is contracted to provide meals at the Olympic Village during the 2012 Olympic Games, has issued a call for tenders to provide Lion Brand eggs during the Games.

The contract will be worth between £26,000 and £50,000 and suppliers will need to deliver eggs to their warehouse in east London during both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, from April until September 2012.

“It’s great news,” said Amanda Cryer, from the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC).

“But we are encouraging LOCOG and the people supplying the Games to remember the eggs they are using in products that are less obvious than shell eggs. Shell eggs have to be Lion but we are pushing people to use Lion eggs in different ways, but still this is great news.”

Bon Appétit will be supplying about 600,000 meals to venue staff and volunteers, with the company expecting daily deliveries of eggs from the supplier.

The company has posted its tender on the Olympics tendering site and says it will be selecting based on price, quality and provenance.

Poultry farmers, egg merchants, catering food and drink suppliers, and cash and carry wholesalers will all be considered in the tendering process.
