Theme for Temperton Fellowship research project unveiled
The theme of the 21st Temperton Fellowship research project has been unveiled.
Researchers Julian Morgan and Mike Tyers, from Countrywide’s renewable division have been awarded the award from Harper Adams University.
As part of the fellowship they will be investigating the role of the poultry industry in supply food to a growing global food population, despite having limited energy resources.
The Temperton Fellowship is established to honour the contribution of Dr Harold Temperton, who was director of the National Institute of Poultry Husbandry at Harper Adams University College for 23 years.
It is awarded on an annual basis to one of the countries’ senior poultry experts or organisations who wish to spearhead a new research project which will benefit the future of the industry.
“If the poultry industry is to play its part in meeting future energy targets while supplying the worlds ever increasing population with protein, then as an industry we must focus on reducing overall energy use as well as adopting sustainable energy generation.”
Julian Morgan
Speaking about the project Julian Morgan said: “Our research will focus on how the poultry industry needs to adapt to cope with increasing demand and new challenges in an environment where energy is likely to become a limiting resource.
“If the poultry industry is to play its part in meeting future energy targets while supplying the worlds ever increasing population with protein, then as an industry we must focus on reducing overall energy use as well as adopting sustainable energy generation.”
The duo’s findings will be presented at the Farmers’ Club in London on 10 June 2013.
