Redlands stock dispersal realises strong trade

A large crowd of buyers were present for the dispersal sale of commercial breeding ewes, rams and suckler cows on behalf of Tudor and Janet Harris at Redlands Farm, Bonvilston, Cardiff on Saturday.

The first class flock of Suffolk cross ewes were in top condition and sold to ÂŁ136 a head for Suffolk cross Mules.

Flock ewes were easily sold with two year old ewes selling to ÂŁ117, three year old ewes peaked at ÂŁ136, while four year olds fetched ÂŁ121.

Suffolk Rams met hot competition and sold to ÂŁ660 for a homebred Suffolk yearling. Two year old rams sold to ÂŁ640 and ÂŁ630.

The outstanding herd of commercial suckler cows saw strong interest from the outset with plenty of customers looking to secure young well-bred cows with shapely calves

The first heifer and bull calf in the ring was knocked down at ÂŁ2,000 and set up a blistering trade.

A top price of ÂŁ2,600 was achieved for a British Blue cross heifer with twin calves selling to E G and L M Cadogan, Usk. Next saw a Limousin cross heifer and heifer calf at ÂŁ2350 selling to Messrs L M Howells & Son, Port Talbot.

The Limousin Stock Bull Rhiwlech Firecracker a Kype Tornado son, had created considerable interest after viewing the quality of the calves and eventually sold at ÂŁ5,000 to W O Thomas, Carmarthenshire. The 15 month old Rhiwlech Halfpenny a son of Sympa fetched ÂŁ2,820 to JCD and K A Richardson, Itton.
