Shearling ewe leads Worcester Beltex at 1,800gns

Beltex trade peaked at 1,800gns at Worcester on Friday, with a solid trade throughout, largely driven by local commercial buyers.

Taking the top call of the day was a shearling ewe, Hackney Wiggle, from Paul Tippetts.

Daughter of Kingledores Scally Wag out of a dam by Clary Kaiser Chief, this one sold to J and R Jerman, The Wern, Whitney on Wye.

Second best of the day came for a shearling ram from Steve and Sara Gibbons’ Whatmore flock, Whatmore Woddpigeon.

Sired by the homebred Whatmore Treason and out of Whatmore Ribbon, a Black Mountain Mincemeat daughter he sold at 1,000gns to S Russell, Yellowmead Farm, Henly.

Next best in the males was an 820gns sale for Freckleton Winston, a shearling ram bred by the Roots family and offered for sale by J A Longhurst. This son of Matts Times Square is out of a Dooley Lanark daughter and sold to G J and S L Gowling, Lutterworth.

Following him at 800gns was Dooley Wensley, a shearling ram from David Thornley. Sired by Jef V/D Drie Musschen, he is out of a dam by The Sub and sold to C Harrison, Braunston.

Three shearling tups then sold at 750gns, with the first being Rob Rattray’s entry, Rattray’s Worthinton. He’s a son of Ballydown Lancer and is out of a dam by Clary Kaiser Chief. He found a new home with O Pritchett, Atherstone.

The second at this money was David Thornley’s Dooley Wesley, a Dooley Look Out son out of a Dooley Pierre daughter. He sold to S Clarke, Ashenedon.

And the final 750gns call in the shearling tups came for Raglan Wallace from A M Evans. This Bharangyne Titanium son is out of a Black Mountain Mincemeat daughter and was knocked down to A J Cook, Hall Farm.

Back in the females, the next best price of 750gns was paid for another Hackney shearling ewe from Paul Tippetts. This was Hackney Wish List, a Scooby Doo daughter out of a Fort View Pick of the Flock daughter and sold to Rob Rattray.

Following her at 720gns was E and C Jones’ Munch Would You, an ET bred shearling ewe by Kingledores Scally Wag out of a dam by Woodies Perfection. She sold to S T Pritchard, Sinton Green.

Topping the ram lambs on offer at 560gns was Raglan Atom from A M Evans. This one is by Kingledores Scallywag and out of a dam by Llwynbrain Mallet. He was bought by A G Kirton and Sons, Kinlet.

Louise Moorhouse then took 440gns for Fingle Aftershock, a Kingledores Tempest son out of a Glantre Norris daughter. This one sold to A Hodges and Son, Bicester.
