Texels and Beltex see strong trade at Lanark

A 92% clearance reflected this season’s continued strength of demand for Texel tups when 242 ram lambs averaged £429 at a breed sale at Lanark on a day shared with Beltex breeders who sold just over 100 shearling rams to average almost £600 and peak at 2600gns.

Topping the Texels at 5800gns was Haddo Ozone from well known Scottish flock owner Willie Knox from Fyvie. The lamb, by Anglezarke Nimrod, is out of a ewe by Claybury Kruger and was bought by D McPherson, Berwick-on-Tweed.

A ram lamb by Didcot Marvellous from Orkney breeder Keith Hourston, made 5500gns to Norman Douglas, Yarrow, Selkirk while a 4500gns call from four joint buyers secured the day’s champion. John McKerrow (Grougfoot), Kerr Jarvie (Tappanuie), Robert Cockburn (Connachan) and Bruce Renwick (Castlecairn) claimed the Garngour Maestro son from vendors James and Hannah Draper, Shrewsbury.
