Western Holsteins reach 5400gns for Erle

The Western Holstein Club’s monthly show and sale at Beeston saw an excellent trade throughout, with the top call a 5400gns bid for a Bolton daughter which sold to Northern Ireland.

This one was Llan Bolton Erle 2, a VG87 classified heifer bred from eight generations of VG and Ex dams, from Idris Morgan, Carmarthenshire. She is out of Smiddiehill Freeman Erle which gave more than 9000kg in her heifer lactation and was subject to a flurry of interest resulting in five separate telephone bidders and several ringside bidders. But the eventual winning bid came from Aubrey Patterson, Co Down, buying for his Ballycrochan herd.

Second best call of 2750gns was given for Alderbarrow Magor Peace from Brian and Leonora Whitfield’s which was champion in the pre-sale show.

She is by Magor Bolivia Allen and out of Alderbarrow Kendall Peace, an Alfrag Juror Kendall daughter which has yielded more than 8000kg in both her first two lactations. She was knocked down to Ben Llewellin, Pembroke, for the Clarby herd.

Following that at 2600gns was Bowlandview Skavlan Bibby from Stephen Garth, Preston. Sired by Moet Skavlan, she is out of Fieldside Bibby, a Duncan Progress daughter and calved in early June. This one’s dam gave 9813 in her third lactation and is classified VG86. Buying her were J and D Royal and Son, Stoke-on-Trent.

And then at 2550gns was another from the day’s top seller Idris Morgan. This was Llan Goldwyn Marbella, a Braedale Goldwyn daughter out of Llan Stormatic Marbella, a VG87 Comestar Stormatic daughter. She went home with Robert Voyle, Pembrokeshire, for the Syfni herd.
