Amazone offers pared-back 6m Catros Special disc harrow

A slimmed version of Amazone’s 6m Catros+ trailed compact disc harrow that can weigh less than 3.5t provides a lighter cultivation tool at lower cost than more comprehensively-equipped versions.

The 6003-2TS Special is reckoned to be just as capable of producing a shallow tilth at depths from 5cm, or deeper working down to 14cm if that’s what residue incorporation, soil conditions or crop requirements dictate.

It uses two rows of 510mm-diameter scalloped discs set at opposing angles front and rear, positioned ahead of a finishing tool that buyers can choose from several different styles to suit soil type and the effect required.

While regular versions of trailed Catros+ harrows can have a double packer, the Special is best equipped with a single version, says Amazone, and weight reduction continues by omitting a seeder option.

Semi-mounted frame

The newcomer does, however, share the “Smart Frame System”, a semi-mounted design supported at the front by a lower link arms-mounted drawbar and at the rear by transport wheels, or the packer roller when in work.

Setting up involves an initial adjustment to position the frame parallel to the field surface.

Working depth is then set by hydraulically rotating the beams on which the disc carriers are clamped, with fine-tuning adjustment possible on the move.

The frame carrying the transport wheels is lifted and lowered independently using a single hydraulic ram on the headstock, and can be positioned with the wheels extending beyond the back of the implement about 50cm above the ground, or swivelled right over the frame for extra weight on the discs.

Maintenance-free bearings and rubber-cushioned mounting clamps suggest the discs should need little attention until worn out.

Amazone has yet to release prices for the implement.
