Bryce Suma launches trailed post driver

Post knocking specialist Bryce Suma has launched its first trailed heavy-duty post driver that doesn’t require a hefty tractor on the front to provide stability.
The Kelso-based manufacturer says heavy-duty post drivers are normally carried on a three-point linkage, but this new model allows a smaller, more compact tractor to tow the trailed unit if a bigger tractor isn’t available.

The TR400 requires an oil supply of about 25-30 litres/min to wield the 400kg hammer to the 3.6m telescopic drop height.
Similar to other Suma knockers, the TR400 can store 20 strainer posts, 100 round or square fencing stakes or a maximum of 10 rolls of 100m net, while there is also a secure storage area for chainsaws and hand tools, and stabilising blocks for the hydraulic support jacks.
Along with jacks, there are a raft of hydraulic features, including a back- and side-shift to position the mast for the right alignment and an integral swing around rock spike.
Bryce Suma says the new machine can be run by a modern tractor with as little as 47hp, but has also been on an elderly 60hp tractor.
There is also the option to fit an external hydraulic tank if the tractor’s current system isn’t up to the job.
