Mitas develops high-spec Agriterra Ultra trailer and tanker tyres

Two new tyre ranges developed for intensive trailer, tanker and spreader operations have been added to the Mitas range from Yokohama TWS.

The Agriterra Ultra is a high-spec conventional radial that – having been introduced in size 560/60 R22.5TL – will progressively become available in multiple widths for 22.5in, 26.5in, 30.5in and 32in rims.

There is also a new VF trailer tyre – the Agriterra Ultra Soil Protector – in 22.5in and 26.5in rim sizes.

This design has extra-flexible sidewalls and a carcass structure that allows it to run at significantly lower inflation pressures for a given load.

High load, minimal compaction

Mitas says the Ultra tyres are engineered with rubber compounds and structures for stability and durability, high load capacity, and the least possible impact on the soil.

The regular Agriterra Ultra for 30.5in rims is available in 710/50 and 850/50 sizes with an overall diameter of 1,488mm and 1,620mm, respectively, and nominal load capacities of 6.5t and 8.5t, with speed rated to 65kph.

Like the other 14 sizes available, this pair is produced with a rounded shoulder tread pattern to suit most applications, including on grassland.

A slightly different tread distinguishes the Ultra in taller 600/60 R30.5 and 800/65 R32 sizes.

Its shoulders are also rounded to minimise surface scuffing on grass pastures, but the curved lugs and separate elongated blocks down the centre are spaced further apart for greater traction and better self-cleaning characteristics.

A more aggressive format features on the 680/60 R30.5 and 750/60 R30.5, combining the larger lug and block spacing with prominent lug shoulders that should provide extra lateral and rotational traction, especially on wet loose soils, as well as placing a little more rubber on the soil surface.

For the ultimate in trailer tyre performance, the VF category Agriterra Ultra Soil Protector delivers a larger – both longer and slightly wider – rubber-to-soil contact patch than a conventional radial as a consequence of being able to operate at up to 40% lower inflation pressure for a given load.

It is available in eight sizes from VF 500/60 R22.5 to VF 710/50 R26.5.
