Retrofit Carbon Bee spot spraying kits are now available through Cambridgeshire distributor LH Agro.

The SmartStriker-X system uses a series of 3m-spaced RGB and hyperspectral cameras to detect weeds both on stubble and when growing among up to 20 different crop types.

Harvested footage is processed in milliseconds by an artificially intelligent Controller X computer to determine when and where a blast of spray is required.

Operators can tweak the way it works through a “dual dose” function that allows a blanket rate to be applied across the whole field and a bit more where weeds are present.

It is also able to alter the rate according to weed size, hitting the biggies hard without knocking back the crop too much. Both features are standard.

The system runs through isobus – LH Agro offers 7in and 10in Topcon screens for the job – and can apparently work reliably at speeds of up to 25kph.

Cheeringly, there are no unlock or subscription fees, and updates are free.

The catch is the up-front cost: £2,500/m.
