Triple show launch for Landini

TRADITIONALLY, THE Smithfield Show has hosted vast arrays of new machinery and, although fewer in number, the UK‘s manufacturers and distributors took the opportunity to show off their latest wares.

Italian tractor manufacturer Landini used the event as the springboard for three new tractor ranges.

In the compact sector, the Mistral America made its debut – three models span 35hp to 48hp.

The 65hp to 85hp Alpine models replace the outgoing Globus range and, as the name would suggest, have been designed primarily for work on undulating terrain.

“We anticipate that most demand will be generated from hill farmers and amenity users,” said Adrian Winnet, UK sales manager.

“Low rooflines and a tight turning circle should also make the tractor popular with livestock users working in and around cramped yards and buildings.”

Stretching from 59hp to 99hp, the new Powerfarm range takes the place of existing Ghibli models.

Compliant with the latest Tier II emissions legislation, it uses new three and four-cylinder Perkins engines.

Landini builds its own 12 forward/12 reverse mechanical transmission for the tractor, which will be available later in 2005 with a clutchless power-shuttle reverser.

A high clearance variant of the Powerfarm is also available for applications where crop damage would usually be an issue, particularly spraying.

Four equal-sized wheels and a heavy-duty front axle combine to give an extra 220mm (9in) of ground clearance, increasing it to 745mm (30in).
