1,100 want castaway farming job

By FWi staff

MORE than 1,100 people have applied for the job of a farmer willing to spent 20 years on a remote Welsh island, reports The Guardian.

The successful applicant for the job on Bardsey Island, Cardigan Bay, would have to buy a lease costing up to 30,000 and invest in a tractor and boat.

Duties on the history-steeped 444-acre mixture of rock and pasture would include managing sheep.

For company, The Guardian reports, they would have one nun, two nature reserve wardens and the spirits of 20,000 Celtic saints.

Meanwehile, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is looking for a herder to tend 75 wild goats on its nature reserve at Whitelee near the Scottish border.
