A new topper could fit bill

GRASSLAND farmers looking for a new topper now have a 3.6m (12ft) version from Major Equipment to consider. Comprising two cutting decks – a 2.4m (8ft) main deck and a 1.2m (4ft) hydraulically folding wing extension – the whole unit has a 2.4m transport width.

All blades are gear driven allowing the two decks to be synchronised and provide a blade overlap. A 130o primary gearbox is rated at 80hp for a continuous input and the gearing is such that the blades contra-rotate to create an even distribution of cut grass.

Running gear of two 10 x 15.3, 8-ply tyres and one 7.00 x 12, 8-ply tyre is used to control cutting heights hydraulically from 12mm to 205mm (0.5in to 8in). A second hydraulic circuit lowers the wing and places the drawbar in an off-set position.

Price of Major Equipments Trailed Topper, which the company claims is capable of cutting up to 6ha/hour (15 acres), is £6500.

Major Equipments Trailed Topper. Note the two deck system which allows the 3.6m (12ft) working width to be reduced to a more social 2.4m (8ft) for transport.
