Abbot accolade
TOP winter wheat in terms of gross margin, provided it achieves bread-making quality, is Abbot, according to figures in the 1997 NIAB Cereal Variety Handbook.
Rifle, not yet approved by the Institute of Brewing, would be the most profitable winter barley in a common disease situation should it be sold as an IOB accepted variety, the figures indicate.
The 153-page handbook (free to NIAB fellows) costs £15.
