IT had to be the only staging of Cinderella ever to mention the over-30-month-scheme and estate agents commission charges.
But this wasnt just another version of the pantomime – it was one put on for charity by West Country auctioneers and agents Stags.
The idea for the play – staged at Blundells School, Tiverton – was the brainchild of the firms Ninette Hartley, a dance and drama teacher in her spare time.
She wrote a script based on the much-loved theme – but tailored it to those taking part, with the cast coming from five of the firms 12 regional offices.
Evening rehearsals were held in the reception area of the main Tiverton office. "There were some bemused looks from passers-by who must have wondered what our staff do after hours," said Stags chairman Michael Powell.
The production, which hopes to raise £2000 for the NSPCC Devon Full Stop Appeal, was a great idea and great fun.
As for the funniest moment, well, it had to be a line after the show when – in true theatrical tradition – a girl in the audience got a special birthday mention. She was given by a present by the pantos "Demon Dave", known in working hours as David Lockwood. "But dont thank him," this girl was told as she was given a fiver. "He took it out of your dads bullocks earlier today!"
