All-numeric tag order warning

All-numeric tag order warning

CATTLE producers are being urged to ensure they have ordered all-numeric tags so they can comply with new legislation coming into force on July 1.

The new legislation means that all cattle born after on or after July 1 this year must be tagged with all-numeric tags. This means the changeover period – when both alpha numeric and numeric tags could be used – comes to an end.

Tag distributor Cox warns that it is proving difficult to determine what percentage of tags have been marked, so there may be a last-minute rush to meet the deadline.

According to NFU south west senior policy adviser Robert Deane some herds may yet have to order numeric tags.

"I think most large herds will already have tackled this, but smaller herds who perhaps tag infrequently may yet need to order. But it is vital that everyone uses all-numeric tags as of July 1, as BCMS will not accept passport applications for animals born after that date bearing alpha numeric identification." &#42
