ANM to reduce OTMS charges

FROM tomorrow (Feb 1) Aberdeen and Northern Marts will cut handling charges for OTMS cattle.

The move follows the price reduction resulting from the green pound revaluation.

The ANM commission rate will drop from 3.25% to 2% with a minimum of £8 and a maximum of £12 per animal, compared with £16 and £20 previously. And no charge will now be made for haulage from collection point to abattoir.

Intense competition among dedicated abattoirs is given as the reason for the cost cuts, together with a desire to help farmer members of the ANM co-operative.

With no backlog, cull animals are carrying less condition, according to ANM. And a survey has shown that 40% would be best sold on a liveweight basis, compared with 10% a few weeks ago.n
