Annabel taken into custody

THE British Pig Industry Support Groups giant model pig "Annabel" was impounded by Westminster Council on Tuesday night.

Annabel was making an appearance with protesting pig farmers outside Grosvenor House Hotel, Westminster, where Chancellor Gordon Brown was amongst the 1000 guests at the British Retail Consortiums annual dinner.

A spokesman for the BPISG said the council insisted Annabel constituted an advertising hoarding and wanted to remove her. But the police stepped in and, while they argued over what to do with her, she remained in full view of the guests, drawing attention to the fact that retailers continue to import pigmeat reared in stalls and tethers systems.
