Planting is in full swing at Cobrey Farms, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, where over 400ha (1000 acres) of potatoes are grown by John Chinn. Here, Pentland Javlin are loaded up on contracted land at Ryeford. Prospects for next season remain uncertain. Plantings are well ahead of the last three seasons. But the expectation is that the final area will be well back on last year. Yields could also suffer if dry weather continues, and if growers plant ex-store ware instead of certified seed.
