KENT FWC met at the North Pole, a pub at Wateringbury, for lunch before going to visit East Malling Horticultural Research Station.

The station is situated in the garden of England on the Bradbourne House Estate which looked magnificent in the spring sunshine especially as it was apple blossom time. This horticultural research station was founded in 1912 and Malling rootstocks are used worldwide.

Alan Todd took us on a tour of Hatton Fruit Gardens where the bateau of pear trees caught our attention alongside apple trees trained in the shape of a Christmas tree.
