Profit squeeze… Martyn Heath (right) helps to load bacon pigs destined for Malton Bacon from his 480-sow unit at Whitley Manor, near Newport, Shropshire. Although hopes are rising that pig prices will improve on the back of Europes BSE crisis, Mr Heath is not convinced. "The strong £ and little sign of a reduction in Continental supplies suggests to me prices will remain under pressure." More on page 20.
