Dont assume stored grain is nice and safe
Assuming that a hard-won cereal harvest is safely tucked up in store is always risky.
As other autumn tasks, such as drilling, spraying and root harvesting, occupy minds, its all too easy to shut the door and hope for the best.
But with every grain needed to boost profits, succumbing to that temptation should be avoided. Thorough cooling and regular monitoring to nip potential problems in the bud are vital.
Left alone in the right conditions, beetles, mites and fungi can soon ruin otherwise good crops.
For all the latest information on keeping your grain in top condition, visit Grain 2001 at the NAC, Warks on Nov 21/22. It could be a wise investment.
