AROUND THE SALES
HOLSTEIN FRIESIANS: Prices peaked at 1420gns when the Fullerton partnership dispersed its 230-head herd of commercial Holstein Friesians at Andover, Hants. This came for a freshly-calved heifer by Cherokee, sold with her heifer calf at foot to J Coppinthorne, Steyning, Sussex, who also took the highest-priced cow at 820gns. "There was a firm demand for heavy milkers but lying-off cattle were difficult to move," said a spokesman for auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt.
SHEEPDOGS: Bids of 1500gns were seen twice at the recent Bala sale. Another made 1200gns and the average for the 38 changing hands was £617.
